F1 title permutations: How can Max Verstappen win the F1 championship at the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix today?

Max Verstappen was unable to clinch his maiden Formula 1 world title at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, with the battle going down to the final race of the season.

An eight-point advantage heading into the penultimate round of the 2021 season meant the Red Bull star was capable of sealing the Drivers’ Championship in Jeddah.

The Dutchman needed to put 26 points, or more, between himself and Lewis Hamilton ahead of the final race in Abu Dhabi to ensure that GP is a dead rubber.

But Hamilton claimed victory in a memorable race in Jeddah, and also claimed the extra point for the fastest lap of the race.

With Verstappen finishing in second, it means the two rivals head to Abu Dhabi completely level with everything to be decided in a title showdown.

In addition, Mercedes took a big step towards the F1 Constructors’ Championship in Saudi Arabia. They now lead by 28 points, with Valtteri Bottas stealing third on the line and Sergio Perez crashing out of the race early on, in what was a day to forget for Red Bull.
