McLoud sneaks past Ada in Monday matchup

Mar. 20—MCLOUD — The Ada High School baseball team had the potential game-tying run at first base before host McLoud hung on for a 3-2 win in a District 4A-1 matchup Monday night.

The Cougars lost for the sixth straight time to fall to 2-6 on the season, while McLoud improved to 5-3.

The two teams met again Tuesday evening in Ada. The Cougars then have a road trip to Cushing at 5 p.m. Thursday.

McLoud 3, Ada 2

Ada used a two-out rally to score a single run in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score at 2-2.

JD Dugan drew a two-out walk and courtesy runner Eli Justus scored on clutch an RBI triple to right field by Brock Boyles.

The Cougars only had one other hit in the contest — an RBI single from Reid Samson with two outs in the top of the fourth inning that put Ada on top 1-0.

McLoud scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Briar Lynch reached on a one-out error and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Casey King. Courtesy runner Brody Smith then raced home on another Cougar miscue that put the Redskins ahead 3-2.

McLoud also was limited to a pair of hits — singles by Gavyn Morgan and Kaleb Fox.

Lynch was the winning pitcher for the Redskins. He struck out four, walked two, and allowed two earned runs in six innings. Castin Schafer notched a save with a scoreless inning of relief.

Samson got the start for Ada and didn't factor in the decision. He struck out 11, walked six and didn't allow an earned run in five innings of work. Dugan absorbed the loss after surrendering an unearned run in relief.

The two teams committed four errors each.
