Rangers are reportedly closing in on another signing, with left-back Ridvan Yilmaz currently undergoing a medical at the club.

The Ibrox outfit have moved quickly to land replacements for Calvin Bassey, who played centrally or at left-back, by bringing in Ben Davies from Liverpool to cover the centre-back role, while Besiktas star Yilmaz is a natural full-back.

Ajax coughed up £23million to take Bassey to Holland in what was a record Rangers sale.

But with Davies now on board and Yilmaz close, Giovani van Bronckhorst can feel much better about his defensive options.

beIN Sports journalist Gurler Akgun confirmed the news about Yilmaz heading to Glasgow. Indeed, he said, via Twitter ‘Rıdvan Yılmaz goes through health checks for Rangers’.

While losing Bassey was tough for Rangers, the fact they recouped a record fee and have now managed to land two players to cover his two primary roles looks good business.

No issues are expected with Yilmaz’s medical, with an official announcement expected to come soon.

One thing that is unclear though is what the new arrival means for regular left-back Borna Barisic.

The Croatian is another player tipped to leave Ibrox this summer, although there have been no concrete offers as yet.

As for Yilmaz, he had three goals and four assists in 33 games in all competitions for Besiktas last season.
