Meghan and Kate at Wimbledon compared to Princess Diana and Sarah, Duchess of York

The Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex's trip to Wimbledon 2018 was the first time the two have stepped out together, without their husbands by their sides. They watched Serena Williams play against Angelique Kerber in the women's final and appeared to enjoy each other's company at the sporting event.

Fellow royals, Princess Diana and Sarah, Duchess of York, also used to attend Wimbledon together. Photographed in both 1988 and 1989, Diana and Sarah seemed just as close as Meghan and Kate were at this year's event.

The following year, on July 5, 1989, an almost identical photo of the pair was taken, with Princess Diana leaning over a different mutual friend who sat in-between them, so that she could chat to the Duchess of York:

Similarly, Meghan and Kate spent much of their time at Wimbledon talking and laughing with one another. By all accounts, it appears that the duchesses have grown very close since Meghan joined the family in May 2018, when she married Prince Harry:
