Melbourne Storm have confirmed the signings of forwards Joe Chan and Tariq Sims.

Chan, 20, makes the move from Catalans Dragons on a two-year deal. He made his debut during the 2021 campaign in the Challenge Cup against Warrington.

The forward has made a total of 12 Super League appearances, including seven this year. He will become the second generation of the Chan family to become a Melbourne Storm player.

His father Alex was Storm player #71 and turned out in 32 games for Melbourne in the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

Melbourne Storm confirm Tariq Sims signing

Head coach Craig Bellamy has also added Tariq Sims from St George Illawarra Dragons for the 2023 campaign. He joins on a one-year deal.

Sims, 32, began his NRL career with North Queensland Cowboys in 2011. To date, he has made 209 appearances in the NRL. He has also won five caps for Fiji.

The New South Wales representative forward has also played in five State of Origin fixtures. He featured in all three matches in the starting pack in last year’s series win against Queensland.

Cameron Munster’s future

Cameron Munster’s future at the Storm continues to be talking point in the NRL. The half-back is off-contract at the end of 2023 and is in hot demand.

Several clubs are reportedly in the race to sign the Australia representative. NRL’s newest side set to join in 2023 in Dolphins are reportedly set to offer him $1.2million. Brisbane Broncos have also become a possibility. The Broncos are rebuilding under the leadership of coach Kevin Walters. But they have failed to come up with a settled halves pairing as things stand.

Adam Reynolds has arrived from South Sydney to cement the No.7 jersey. But he needs a settled partner. Albert Kelly and Billy Walters have been unable to lock in a spot in the side.
