Melbourne Victory vs Manchester United - LIVE!

Erik Ten Hag saw his Manchester United side score four goals for the second game in a row as they came from behind to beat Melbourne Victory on Friday.

As was so often the case last season, United were cut apart far too easily in the opening exchanges, with both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof left stranded as Chris Ikonomidis raced through to give the home side a lead in the fourth minute. From there, Ten Hang’s side looked rigid in possession but the goals would soon come.

Scott McTominay got them back on level terms before Anthony Martial turned the game on its head just before the break after good work from Jadon Sancho and Diogo Dalot, the two standout players in the first-half. After the interval, United played with much more urgency and Marcus Rashford latched onto a brilliant ball from Eric Bailly to score before Tahith Chong forced a late own goal to seal a big win.

Another loose ball from Bailly

12:40 , Jonathan Gorrie

75:00 - Far too casual with a ball into midfield and Bailly almost costs United again!

Charlie Savage, however, is looking very comfortable on the ball.

Poor error from Bailly

12:35 , Jonathan Gorrie

70:00 - United were comofortable building from the back but Bailly slices a clearance and almost lets Melbourne in!

A Zindane masterclass

More open game now

12:30 , Jonathan Gorrie

65:00 - Melbourne threaten to open United up, though they counter through Amad.

His ball to Chong forces him wide somewhat, however, and the chances goes.

Melbourne still sitting deep

12:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

54:00 - Not exaclty the most thrilling team in the world, this home side.

Much better from United

12:14 , Jonathan Gorrie

51:00 - Everthing is much quicker at the moment, though it would have been interesting to see how Sancho would operate at this tempo.

Bit more urgency

12:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

47:00 - Bailly, Savage, Amad and Rashford are all playing at a much higher pace.

Good news, United fans!

Some of the action

12:02 , Jonathan Gorrie

GOAL! Melbourne Victory 1-2 Man United | Anthony Marial ‘45

11:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

45:00 - Sancho plays in Dalot behind the backline and his cross eventually finds Martial, who finishes calmly.

GOAL! Melbourne Victory 1-1 Man United | Scott McTominay

11:49 , Jonathan Gorrie

42:00 - McTominay pounces on a loose ball and shotos from just outside the box.

That’s deflected and loops over the ‘keeper. Lucky perhaps but McTomiany did well not to give up on the loose ball.

Marital far too deep

11:46 , Jonathan Gorrie

39:00 - United’s best chance so far came from Bruno Fernandes breaking through the lines and running beyond Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman is far, far too deep as things stand.

CHANCE FOR UNITED

11:41 , Jonathan Gorrie

34:00 - Once again, a Dalot overload tees up Fred on the side of the box but his shot is blocked.

Maguire goes close with a header from a resulting corner.

Melbourne look comofortable

11:38 , Jonathan Gorrie

32:00 - So little about what United have done in this opening 30 minutes should worry the home side.

CHANCE FOR MAN UNITED!

11:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

25:00 - Fernandes played through by some quick passing from Sancho, though his shot is well-saved.

Best United moment so far.

Better work

11:28 , Jonathan Gorrie

21:00 - Moving the ball from side to side, Dalot creates an overload on the right in the box but McTominay’s shot from his teammate’s cut-back is again blocked.

Not a good opening 20

11:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

20:00 - Obviously, the result is not at all important - something Ten Hag stressed after the Liverpool win - but there have been very few positives of his opening 20.

CHANCE FOR MAN UNITED!

11:23 , Jonathan Gorrie

17:00 - Fernandes pulls back from the byline and McTominay’s shot is deflected behind for a corner.

That, however, comes to nothing.

Dalot almost playing CM!

11:22 , Jonathan Gorrie

16:00 - One striking thing about this first-half is just how centrally Dalot is playing at times. Seems happy to offer Fred and McTominay some help, with Sancho stretching the pitch.

United sloppy

11:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

12:00 - Shaw, Elanga and Fernandes all guilty of losing the ball in dangerous areas.

Not a pretty watch, this one.

Melbourne game plan

11:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

08:00 - Every time the hosts win the ball back, they’re looking to race in between United’s full-backs and central defenders.

Ah, how familiar.

GOAL! Melbourne Victory vs Man United | Chris Ikonomidis ‘4

11:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

04:00 - United were stringing some quick passes together but are caught out and both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are stranded high up the field.

Chris Ikonomidis taps in after a counter.

Fairly cagey

11:08 , Jonathan Gorrie

02:00 - Granted, only a pre-season friendly but the opening stages have been remarkably cagey.

Manchester United 4-0 Liverpool: What a start for Erik Ten Hag!

10:30 , Jonathan Gorrie

Manchester United brushed Liverpool aside in Bangkok on Tuesday as the two rivals kicked off pre-season in Asia.

Goal from Jadon Sancho, Fred and Anthony Martial has United cruising with just 33 minutes on the clock as fans got to see Erik ten Hag’s side in action for the first time.

It was a good first impression, with a high-pressing approach running Liverpool ragged before 10 half-time changes saw the tempo slow.

Sancho was first on the scoresheet after just 12 minutes, sweeping home the ball across Alisson after Bruno Fernandes’ cross wasn’t cleared.

Liverpool’s young defence were struggling with the lively United attack and soon found themselves 2-0 down then another cross was only cleared as far as Fred, who chipped Alisson from 25 yards.

The Manchester United forward is believed to want to leave Old Trafford only a year after his emotional return to the club with which he made his name and has not travelled on their tour of Thailand and Australia.

Ronaldo scored 18 Premier League goals during an otherwise miserable season at United and has been offered to Chelsea through intermediaries.

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Barcelona over a potential move for Frenkie De Jong.

The Dutchman was earmarked as a key target by Erik Ten Hag – who worked him with at Ajax – when the 51-year-old ended his contract in the Dutch capital early and began planning for his first season in charge back in May.

During a meeting with Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali in the Catalan city, Barca encouraged a bid for the midfielder, although it is United who have found an agreement with their La Liga counterparts.
