Mesut Ozil returned to work early at Arsenal after hearing such good things about Unai Emery’s training sessions.

The Gunners midfielder was on holiday after Germany’s humiliating exit from the World Cup in Russia this summer.

However, Goal reports that the 29-year-old has kept in contact with his north London team-mates and has cut short his vacation to head back and link up with the squad.

Emery is understood to have been putting his players through a gruelling training regime that sees them out on the pitches until 8pm after double sessions.

The players are clearly feeling the benefits as they get back into shape in pre-season and were giving rave reviews to Ozil while he was away on his travels.

Germany’s shock group-stage exit from the World Cup will have left a few mental scars and Emery has lent his support to the former Real Madrid star.

He said: “We are here to help every player. For us Mesut is a very important player. We want to help to be well, fine with us.

“The national team didn’t get the results they want but today he is on holiday, and I want him to relax well and I want, when he comes back with us, to start with a good mentality.

“I want to work with him with a new way and with an ambition to continue with this quality and to help him to get better with the team.”

Having decided to return early, Ozil will now travel with the team for their pre-season trip to Singapore.

They face Atletico Madrid and French giants Paris Saint-Germain in a tournament from July 26 to July 30.
