Mets-Braves rained out, setting record for postponed games

It's only April 22, but Major League Baseball has already set the record for most weather-related postponements through April in recent league history.

The Braves announcing Sunday's game in Atlanta against the New York Mets would be postponed clinched the record. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on May 28.

Weather.com reported a 100 percent chance of rain, with one to two inches expected on Sunday and flood warnings for Fulton County in effect through Monday morning.

That makes 26 games to be called off due to weather-related factors, the most since the league started tracking such things in 1986.

There were 26 postponements in April of 2007, but one of those was in response to the death of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock.

Zach Wheeler, who was set to start for the Mets, will pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday instead, with the Mets other starters moving back accordingly.

Right-hander Mike Foltynewicz, the Braves starter, will open Atlanta's series against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night, with Atlanta simply pushing its rotation back a day as well.
