Michael Bisping to Face Dan Henderson in First Title Defense

Michael Bisping to Face Dan Henderson in First Title Defense

Michael “The Count” Biping won the UFC middleweight title on June 4 by knocking out then-champion Luke Rockhold in the first round of the UFC 199 main event. Bisping accepted the fight on 17-days notice after an injury forced Rockhold's original opponent, Chris Weidman, out of the event.

UFC president Dana White ended any speculation about who Bisping would face in his first title defense during the UFC 200 Post Show following Saturday's pay-per-view event in Las Vegas.

“We’re gonna do Dan Henderson vs. Mike Bisping. It’s a fight that the champ wants. It’s a fight that the fans want. Hopefully in Manchester. We’re thinking about doing it in Manchester, England,” White announced.

Bisping and Henderson have history. Henderson delivered one of the most memorable knockouts in the promotion's history when they first fought at UFC 100 in July 2009. Bisping requested the fight with Henderson, but said he would have agreed to fight anyone the UFC wanted him to.

“Dan Henderson, come on. He knocked me out in 2009. That said, I’ve never ducked anybody, if you said anybody else,” he said.

The 45-year-old Henderson is coming off a knockout win over Hector Lombard on the same fight card that was capped off by Bisping winning the belt in June.
