Chelsea could be heading into a transfer tussle with Manchester United after rumours surfaced that both clubs are eyeing up Crystal Palace's Michael Olise this summer.

It's been another season of change for the Blues with former Leicester boss Enzo Maresca now in the Stamford Bridge hot seat following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. Maresca put pen to paper on a five-year deal this week and now all eyes are on the Italian as he looks to inject some new blood into his team and shape his squad for next season.

One player Maresca is believed to be fond of is Palace starlet Olise with The Evening Standard reporting that Chelsea are willing to battle Manchester United for the Frenchman's signature this summer in a bid to bring the winger back to the Bridge. Olise spent seven years in Chelsea's youth set-up before leaving at age 14 and it's believed the Blues now want to lure the 22-year-old back to West London.

However, Olise is understood to be settled at Selhurst Park and optimistic about the Eagles' potential under new boss Oliver Glasner.
Glasner has altered the mood around Selhurst Park with the club wrapping up last season with a seven-game unbeaten run and will be looking to build on that success rather than dismantle his side.

Olise may have disclosed his happiness with Palace but it's also understood that the young Frenchman harbours lofty ambitions for his career and is open to alternatives despite being content with his current club - showcasing his elite mentality to reach the top.

A potential sticking point for Chelsea and United in their chase of the midfielder is the belief that Olise would prefer to turn out for a club in the Champions League should any switch materialise. The Blues missed out on the next season's new-look competition, as did Erik ten Hag's side, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa the teams making up the Premier League's top four at the end of last season.

Nevertheless, it is believed that Olise could still be tempted by the right offer from a side who are aiming to make positive moves going forward, regardless of their current Champions League status. In spite of Olise's supposed willingness for a return to Chelsea, Palace will be eager to keep hold of their prize asset, as well as the in-demand Eberechi Eze, with the club basking in the feel-good factor under Glasner.

Despite the ongoing chatter that the Chelsea hierarchy feels that Olise could fit right in at Stamford Bridge, it's believed that Maresca's side would have to cough up around £60 million to activate Olise’s release clause with his Palace contract running until 2027.

With Chelsea looking to rebuild under their new manager, and football.london understanding that Tosin Adarabioyo will be their first summer signing, it's likely that the Blues will first focus their attentions on outgoings with Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah both being touted for the exit door at Chelsea.
