Middlesbrough extend Shay Given’s loan spell

Shay given’s loan spell at Middlesbrough has been extended until 28 February, the club have confirmed.

The 37-year-old, who is Ireland’s second most-capped player ever, has had a successful start to life at the Riverside, keeping four clean sheets in seven starts since joining the club at the end of November.

Commenting on the news, Chief Executive Neil Bausor said: “We are extremely delighted to secure the extension of Shay’s loan until the end of February.”

Given is retired from international duty, but the goalkeeper has indicated recently that he would be open to a return to the Ireland set-up.
