Middlesbrough will have the same squad available on Tuesday night as for Saturday’s defeat at Portsmouth, with Anfernee Dijksteel and Riley McGree unlikely to be back in the fold at all this week.

The duo both missed out on Saturday as Boro lost 2-1 at Fratton Park after picking up niggles in training. But with Boro hosting West Brom on Tuesday and then travelling to Preston North End on Saturday, head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed neither is expected to be back for those games.

In better news though, Carrick all but confirmed star striker Emmanuel Latte Lath will remain in the team on Tuesday when Tony Mowbray’s Baggies visit the Riverside. Amid a transfer offer from Atlanta United, the Ivorian has remained in the Boro side and scored two in Boro’s last two league games.

On top of that, Boro welcomed back Aidan Morris, Luke Ayling and Seny Dieng at the weekend. Though Dieng remained unused and Ayling only came on late, Morris had a 20-minute runout, with all three reacting well to their returns.

Offering an injury update, Carrick said: “We’ll have exactly the same squad we had for the last game as this one. Anf and Riley are going to miss a bit longer. They’re definitely not going to be around it for the next week or so. We’ll try and get them back as soon as we can, but we’re still fully assessing when that will be, but certainly a week or two at least.

“Aidan and Luke came through their returns well and had no other issues after it, which is positive. It’s good to have them back. They had similar injuries actually, in the end. They didn’t have much training leading into the game but both got back onto the pitch at different stages, which was a good step for both of them. It’s great to have them around the group again. Seny was back as well. He’s back now fully and he’s fine again.”

It means as well as Dijksteel and McGree, Boro remain without Tommy Conway who is expected back soon, Jonny Howson, whose return date is unknown, as well as longer term absentees Sol Brynn, Tommy Smith, Darragh Lenihan and Alex Bangura.
