Granit Xhaka’s brother has vowed to “do everything” he can to get the Arsenal midfielder to play with him at Basel before the end of his career.

The Gunners have been in brilliant form this season with Mikel Arteta’s side currently top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand.

Xhaka has been a key part of their success this season with the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder improving his attacking contributions with three goals and five assists in the Premier League.

His older brother, Taulant, has been watching from afar and is desperate to play with his brother in Switzerland for FC Basel, where Granit started his career.

“We often talk about it,” Taulant told Blick.

“He is tied to Arsenal until 2024, maybe he will extend for another year. But then it would be possible, but he would have to come in 2026 at the latest.

“He also wants to play for the FCB again, together with me. Even if it’s only for ten minutes: I’ll do everything for that.”

Many former players and pundits are taking notice of Xhaka’s performances for Arsenal this term and ex-Gunners striker Kevin Campbell can’t believe the difference.

Speaking earlier this year, Campbell said: “He’s [Granit Xhaka] definitely changed my mindset, I’ve got to say that. I’ve got to give credit where it’s due.”

“Granit Xhaka, 9 months ago wasn’t the same player that he is now. He was improving but he still had fouls in him, still wasn’t consistent.

“But I’ve got to say, this season, the manager’s [Mikel Arteta] challenged him and he’s come back and been a revelation.

“Obviously, he’s playing a little further forward, which helps. But he’s been nothing short of remarkable with what he’s doing.”

Arsenal added another victory to their brilliant away record this season as the Gunners beat Leicester City 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

On their away record, Arteta told reporters: “I think performances. I think to do what to do what the team has done here today is very, very difficult.

“I think we dominated the game from the start almost to finish, we had a difficult 10 or so minutes where we gave so many balls away that we lost a little bit of control, but in general, I think our play and understanding of the space, how they were pressing, how we got into final third positions was excellent.

“We lacked a little bit of that final pass to score more or create bigger chances, I think we weren’t over the decision with the disallowed goal, which was difficult to take, but to stay really focussed and determined to do that.

“I think defensively we were incredible because we restrict Leicester to one shot on target in the whole game at home is a difficult thing to do. The players did really well.”
