Miesha Tate: ‘Ronda Rousey is Somewhat Emotionally Unstable'

Miesha Tate on a Fight with Cris Cyborg: ‘I Wouldn’t Be Against It’

Many questions arose about former UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey after she lost the belt to Holly Holm last November. After all, she admitted to suicidal thoughts and still, six months later, has yet to set foot in the Octagon or even book her next fight.

Aside from that, it is public knowledge that she had a explosive confrontation with strawweight star Paige VanZant, reportedly for VanZant congratulating Holm on her victory.

But all of it is no surprise to current champion Miesha Tate, who has a longstanding feud with the former titleholder.

“I think Ronda is somewhat emotionally unstable and I think that's been characteristic for a long time,” Tate said on a recent edition of SiriusXM Rush Fight Club. “It doesn't mean she fights any worse for it. I'm not knocking her as an athlete, but emotionally she's just got some things that are a little bit strange and I think that (the blow-up with VanZant) was one of them.

“I feel like you can tell a lot about a person who, if they're nice to people that they don't have to be nice to you, or if they're not nice to people that they don't have to be nice to you, and I feel like things that sometimes people don't see on the massive media outlets is the way that Ronda is behind scenes.”

The feud between Tate and Rousey has spanned years, however, so don't think that the blow-up with VanZant is skewing Tate's perspective. From the time that Rousey took the Strikeforce belt from Tate to their time in the UFC – which includes a coaching stint opposite each other on The Ultimate Fighter and another victory for Rousey in a rematch – the two have gone at each other tooth and nail.

At the end of the day, Tate believes is just comes down to different personalities.

“This is just one example. This is a big reason why Ronda and I don't get along. It's not even the career, it's the difference in our personal perspectives. That's why we have the rivalry. We just happen to also be in the same profession and fighting the same weight class and that's what people are really interested in, but truly this is where I disagree with Ronda the most.”
