Miesha Tate vs. Cat Zingano Winner “Makes Sense” as Ronda Rousey's Next Challenge

The winner of the next UFC women’s bout could be next in line for a shot at UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who just solidified her status at UFC 157 on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano are set to fight at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Being the next women’s fight on the UFC schedule, it’s no surprise then that they are considered as the next likely contenders to Rousey’s belt.

While he didn’t exactly confirm the winner would be granted the shot, UFC president Dana White during Saturday night’s post-fight press conference said, “That would make sense,” when asked if the winner would be get a title shot.

It would be a fairly quick return trip for Tate, who lost her Strikeforce championship to Rousey roughly one year ago. She has since defeated Julie Kedzie, via Rousey’s favored technique, the armbar, just last August.

A win over Zingano would put her right back in the thick things, possibly getting her a rematch, this time with Rousey’s belt on the line.

Zingano isn’t a widely known name in the MMA world, although it should be. She has fought her way to a spotless 7-0 record, finishing all but one of her opponents.

Zingano is a well rounded fighter with strong wrestling, dangerous submissions, and powerful striking.

She is coming off of a victory over Raquel Pennington at Invicta FC 3, and holds wins over former SmackGirl champion Takayo Hashi and Carina Damm.
