The forward missed the win at St. Mary’s due to “personal family reasons”, having also been absent for Saturday’s FA Cup defeat against the same opponents.
Without Aubameyang, Arsenal claimed a 3-1 win on Tuesday night and Arteta says the victory was for the team’s skipper.
Asked if there was an update when Aubameyang would return, Arteta said: “No, but I loved how they [the players] support each other and how they protect each other.
“Auba is having a difficult time and we are all behind him. This win was for him.”
Arsenal’s win means they are now eighth in the Premier League and Arteta added: “Winning a football game brings confidence. We were doing things right but losing games. It is a lot of things.
“There were phases of play we completely dominated and we looked comfortable and scored some good goals because it is complicated to win here.”
