Arsenal misfit Lucas Torreira will join up with the squad on Monday and will be dragged on the club’s pre-season tour, according to the player’s agent.

The club made a brief stop in Germany and played Nurnberg on Friday night before they embark on a US Tour. Mikel Arteta’s men have games lined up against Everton, Orlando City and Chelsea stateside before returning to take on Sevilla at The Emirates on July 30.

Torreira was not expected to be part of the travelling party after spending the last two seasons on loan. However, the player’s agent now says the Uruguayan has been asked to go on the club’s tour.

“Torreira to Juve? In fact, he would like to stay and play in Italy, but today Arsenal has called him up for the tour they will do in America, so he seems to be part of the program,” said Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur to Sport Italia via JuventusNews24.

After spending last season at Fiorentina, the Serie A club were expected to make the move permanent.

La Viola though did not want to pay the £12m purchase agreement and instead tried to negotiate a lower fee with both the club and player.

That attempt though was blocked by Arsenal leaving Torreira’s future unclear. Arsenal have since offered him to Lazio among other clubs.

The 26-year-old, who did not feature in the 5-3 win over Nurnberg, recently made it clear he sees no future at The Emirates.

Arteta: ‘Door open’

“There is no chance,” he told El Telgrafo last month, when asked about a possible Arsenal stay. “From the beginning, they told me that I didn’t have a place, so I don’t want to stay either because I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt, and my idea is to go to Italy or Spain.

“What I wanted was to stay at Fiorentina, but it didn’t happen for various reasons. So we’ll look for a new direction.”

Mikel Arteta though may well have softened his stance over the industrious midfielder. Taking the player on a tour across the Atlantic would make little sense if he had no future at the club.

Speaking after the comeback win at the Max-Morlock Stadion, Arteta said: “What I said to them on the first day is that they are Arsenal players.

“Things change dramatically in football from one day to another and you have to be prepared for that. If any of those players want to take the opportunity, the door is open and they will have to earn it. It’s no different to any other player in the squad.”
