BOTH spots in the final game of the Cornwall Senior Cup have now been taken after Millbrook beat Wendron United to secure its place in the final.

The game took place last night at Sticker AFC and saw the two semi-finalists go head-to-head to find out who would be going up against Helston Athletic in the final.

After kicking off at 7:30pm, the two teams remained at a stalemate for all of 17 minutes before a breakthrough was finally found by Millbrook.

After a period of sustained pressure, it was Millbrook’s 31-year-old forward, Jake Foster, whose finish put his team ahead in the first half.

Millbrook held on to their lead for the remainder of the first half and, once the second started, kept their noses in front until they were able to double their lead with just over half an hour of the second half gone.

On the 78th minute, a cross from defender Josh Toulson picked out teammate Kieran O’Melia who forced the Wendron keeper into a great save that wasn’t enough to keep him from finishing off the rebound.

Wendron will undoubtedly feel they weren’t at their best throughout the game and, after the final whistle signalled the end of a hard-fought game, found themselves knocked out of the Cornwall Senior Cup in the semi-finals.

Millbrook will now go on to face Helston Athletic on Easter Monday, April 10 at Blaise Park in St Blazey, kick-off at 2pm.
