Dean Evason will take over as interim head coach. Prior to joining the Wild as an assistant coach, Evason served as the head coach of the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals from 2012-18, amassing a cumulative 242-161-53 record.
Boudreau took over as the Wild’s head coach in 2016-17, posting a cumulative 158-110-35 record with the team. He led the team to the playoffs in his first two seasons with the team, before losing in the first round both times.
This is the eighth head coaching change of the season in what’s been an unusually tumultuous year in the NHL.
Boudreau may be best known for his tenure with the Washington Capitals (2007-12), where he emerged as a star on HBO’s Road to the Winter Classic for his profanity-laden speeches and colloquialisms.
