Minto: Mourinho's always been arrogant

Former Chelsea player Scott Minto has welcomed the return of the ‘arrogant’ version of Jose Mourinho following Manchester United’s recent impressive form.

Minto was speaking on Yahoo’s The Football Show, and discussed how he had seen Mourinho change his ways at Real Madrid.

Minto said: “He lost that spark [at Real Madrid]. What he did at Chelsea, Porto obviously, but also Inter Milan was nothing short of incredible.

“He was taken over to Spain to try to compete with Barcelona – Pep’s Barcelona,” he continued.

“In a way he did. Pep had enough of everything, and he kind of walked away. That wasn’t because of Mourinho.

“I felt coming back, even with Chelsea winning the league, it wasn’t quite the Jose Mourinho we’d seen, and he’s always been arrogant, he’s always been full of himself, but he’s done it in a way that you kind of think, ‘Yeah, you’ve got some style and charisma’.”

Referencing Mourinho’s on-pitch gesticulating to the Juventus fans after his Manchester United side had pulled off a dramatic late 2-1 victory, Minto said he thought the actions were reminiscent of the cocky Mourinho of previous years, saying: “In the last couple of years he hasn’t done that.

“And that kind of thing takes me back to when he first came to England.”

Mourinho’s United face Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, trailing the Premier League champions by nine points.
