Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe has expressed his gratitude to be back with ball in hand after a long injury-enforced break.

The speedster finally made his long-awaited debut for Toulon against Zebre in the Challenge Cup at the weekend.

First match in four months

The encounter was the 28-year-old’s first match since running out for the Springboks against Argentina in the Rugby Championship in August.

Kolbe injured his leg in training, ruling him out of the latter stages of the Rugby Championship and the Springbok’s end-of-year tour to the UK.

Posting on social media, he admitted that time on the sideline had been frustrating: “I may not be where I want to be, but thank God I am not where I used to be with the most frustrating 4 months of injury.

“Missed this feeling. Thank you to everyone for your continuous support and prayers. My new journey officially starts at Stade Mayol.”

During the off-season, the electric winger traded the colour of Toulouse for that Toulon, bringing to the end of a four-year stint where he played a crucial role in a Top 14 and Champions Cup title.

Earlier, in an interview with AFP, Kolbe said the desire to stay in the Top 14 motivated his decision to join Toulon.

“I wanted to stay in France because myself and my family, we just love the culture,” he revealed. “We’ve made friends that became family to us across France.”
