Missy Franklin is breaking her silence.
TheUSA Swimming standout took to Twitter on Wednesday to offer an explanation for her recent absence from the pool and underwhelming performance at the Rio Olympics in August. Franklin disclosed sheunderwent separate surgeries earlier this yearto remove built up bursal and scar tissue after an MRI in January revealedshehad bursitis in both her shoulders.

"I love you all so so much and can't thank you enough for being a part of this journey with me," shecaptioned the note.
Franklin also shared the statement on her Facebook page, clarifying she is "so far from being done with this sport" and "far from being done fighting." Shehasn't raced since Rio and is expected to take moretime off to rehabilitate from the procedures.
Franklin, 21, tookgold in a relay eventin Rio, though it was a disappointing follow-upto her five-medal performanceas a 17-year-old at the London Olympics in 2012.
