Charlie MacDonald’s eighth-minute strike was enough to give MK Dons the spoils against Crewe, with Tranmere held 1-1 at Prenton Park.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro scored on the hour mark for the hosts, only for Brentford’s Jonathan Douglas to net a stoppage-time equaliser.

Swindon Town claimed a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town at Greenhouse Meadow Stadium with Simon Ferry's goal 11 minutes from time proving the winner.

Walsall recorded a very fine 2-1 win at Bournemouth's Dean Court with Andy Butler and George Bowerman on target, while Charlie Daniels scored for the hosts.

Notts County came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at Sheffield United with Lee Hughes cancelling out Dave Kitson's opener.

Carlisle's four-game unbeaten league run hit the buffers as second-half goals clinched Crawley a 2-0 win at Brunton Park.

Stevenage were held by Bury in a 2-2 draw at the Lamex Stadium as Greg Tansey and Marcus Haber's goals were cancelled out by Tom Hopper and Mark Cullen.

It was a good day for Preston, who overcame Yeovil Town 3-2 at Deepdale with Chris Beardsley and Jeffrey Monakana's goals added by Daniel Burns's late own goal.

Doncaster were too good for Leyton Orient at the Matchroom Stadium with goals from Iain Hume and David Cotterill in a 2-0 win, while a goal from Cody McDonald was enough for Coventry City to win 1-0 against Oldham at Boundary Park.

Colchester United beat Hartlepool United 3-1 with Jabo Ibehre netting a brace, while Gavin Massey added a third after Craig Lynch's opener for the visitors.

Portsmouth were also victorious with a 2-1 win as Wesley Thomas and Gabor Gyepes were on target and Leon Clarke's goal was not enough for Scunthorpe at Fratton Park.
