Brewers activate Eric Thames; Orioles get Zach Britton back from DL

The Brewers and Orioles activated key members of their teams from the disabled list Monday.

The first-place Orioles are about to get even stronger.

All-Star closer Zach Britton is set to rejoin the team Monday in Boston and will be activated from the disabled list by Tuesday at the latest, manager Buck Showalter told reporters Sunday.

Britton worked a scoreless inning for Double-A Bowie on Sunday, the final step in his return from a forearm strain that landed him on the DL two weeks ago.

While the Orioles have held steady alongside the Yankees atop the American League East in Britton's absence, their bullpen is coming off a rough weekend in New York. The Orioles blew a three-run ninth-inning lead Friday before losing in the 10th, then surrendered a pair of runs in the ninth on Sunday before pulling out a win in the 11th.

Brad Brach picked up four saves in Britton's absence, but he'll slide back into his accustomed setup role with the lefty set to return.
