MLB free agent rumors: Royals offer Eric Hosmer 7-year, $147 million deal

Hosmer now has multiple seven-year offers on the table from the Royals and the Padres.

The Royals are not going to let Eric Hosmer go quietly into that good night. According to USA Today Sports, Kansas City has offered its All-Star first baseman a seven-year, $147 million deal to retain his services.

Kansas City joins the Padres as teams willing to give Hosmer a seven-year contract worth at least $140 million, but it is unclear what the particulars are on the breakdown of the contracts.

St. Louis has also gotten in on the Hosmer sweepstakes this week, as USA Today reported Tuesday.

While the Royals are offering more money than the Padres that may not matter as much in the long run. Hosmer is looking for more years — eight or nine, according to USA Today — rather than more money.

Hosmer, 28, batted .318 with 25 home runs and 94 RBIs in 2017.

The Royals still have two more free agents beyond Hosmer to deal with as well. Center fielder Lorenzo Cain and third baseman Mike Moustakas are still on the market.
