Former MLB player sets 24-hour speed-golf world record with 420 holes

Former Major League Baseball player Eric Byrnes set a world record by playing 420 holes of golf in a 24 hour period.

The 43-year-old, who played for the Oakland A’s, Arizona Diamondbacks and a number of other teams between 2000-2010, took to the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links in California at 7am on Monday.

22-and-a-half hours later at 5.31am on Tuesday, Byrnes had beat the existing record of 401 holes, set by Australian Ian Colston in 1971.

He continued playing, finishing on 420 at the end of his 24 hour stint on course.

Byrnes has been doing a host of publicity stunts for his Let Them Play foundation, which encourages kids to get outside and play, becoming an endurance athlete since leaving the MLB.

Byrnes had previously completed the first-ever transcontinental Triathlon Across America, swimming seven miles across the San Francisco Bay, biking over 2,400 miles from Oakland to Chicago and running 905 miles from Chicago to New York City.
