What Mohamed Salah did underlines Liverpool commitment seven hours after Sevilla win
Mohamed Salah continues to silence doubters over his commitment to Liverpool despite being in the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.
The Egyptian is one of the three key players for the Reds to face uncertainty over their future with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also set to be free agents next summer.
Liverpool played their final two pre-season friendlies on Sunday as Arne Slot's side took on Sevilla before hosting fellow La Liga side Las Palmas, in a behind-closed-doors encounter hours later. The Dutchman made his Anfield bow as he was in the home dugout for the first time since succeeding Jurgen Klopp in the hotseat.
There was plenty to be positive about in the win over Sevilla as Luis Diaz scored twice after Diogo Jota's stupendous opener before youngster Trey Nyoni picked up a memorable goal in front of the Kop to cap a 4-1 win. Salah, who has been at the forefront of the preparations ahead of Slot's debut campaign, continues to shine after impressive displays against Arsenal and Manchester United, in pre-season.
He continued to show his commitment to the cause as he posted on his Instagram story, several hours after referee Rob Jones called time on the friendly. The 32-year-old posted a story on his social media channel showing him aqua cycling. It has been suggested that the low-impact nature of the exercise increases blood flow and muscle nutrients while reducing muscle stiffness and aches, as well as blood pressure.
In the early days of Slot's tenure on Merseyside, the professionalism of the Egyptian caught the eye of the new head coach. The record-breaking attacker set the standards at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, including a standout performance in the pre-season tests.
"Mo, came back strong. Really fit, that’s something he’s always been but it’s the same this year," said the 45-year-old. "What you want from them is to set the example for the youngsters. For them, it’s very important, like others from the first team, that they stay fit.
"They are full of energy and that’s the most important thing at the moment. Keep them fit and build it up from there, and try to teach them as much as we can."
