Mohamed Salah injury update: Liverpool forward ‘confident’ of being fit for World Cup 2018 with Egypt

Mohamed Salah says he is “confident” of appearing at the World Cup with Egypt despite appearing to dislocate his shoulder in Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Salah left the field in tears midway through the first-half of Saturday’s final, after being pulled down by Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp later acknowledged that it was a “serious injury”, with the club fearful he had dislocated his shoulder, which would likely rule him out of the World Cup finals.

But in an Instagram post on Sunday evening, Salah said he expects to play in Russia with the Egyptian national team.

“It was a very tough night, but I'm a fighter,” he wrote.

“Despite the odds, I'm confident that I'll be in Russia to make you all proud. Your love and support will give me the strength I need.”

The World Cup begins in 17 days, with the host nation Russia taking on Saudi Arabia in the first Group A match.

Egypt’s first match, against Uruguay, takes place on the second day of the tournament.
