Mohamed Salah in tears as Champions League final ends and could miss World Cup

Mohamed Salah's Champions League final ended in heartbreak as the Egyptian was forced off with a shoulder injury.

The Liverpool forward had to be consoled by teammates as he left the pitch in tears in the 30th minute.

Salah went down clutching his shoulder after an awkward tangle with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

The 25-year-old received treatment from medical staff before attempting to play on.

However the forward, who has scored 10 Champions League goals this season, had to be substituted after dropping to the floor a few moments later.

Liverpool medical staff helped the 25-year-old from the pitch with the forward's left arm supported in a makeshift sling.

Cristiano Ronaldo offered the distraught Egypt international words of comfort as he trudged off the pitch.

Ramos, who appeared to hold Salah's arm in an awkward position during the incident, also appeared to apologise to the Egyptian as he left the field. 

An early diagnosis from Liverpool said the forward has probably suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder.

The Real Madrid captain's role in Salah's injury drew criticism from a number of fans on social media.

One fan wrote: "Not sure how you can consider Ramos’s history and not conclude it was malicious. And on top of that, he might have robbed everybody from seeing one of the best players in the world at the World Cup."

BT Sport pundit Frank Lampard believed there was no deliberate intent from Ramos to injure his fellow professional.

Asked by Gary Lineker whether Ramos knew what he was doing, Lampard said: "No. Sometimes when you do get that close contact you do get interlocking of arms."

The injury could jeopardise Salah's chances of representing Egypt at this summer's World Cup with the first game of the tournament just over two weeks away.

Salah was replaced by England international Adam Lallana.
