Mohamed Salah wordless Liverpool message speaks volumes as debate sparked

Mohamed Salah took to Instagram to celebrate his 300th goal contribution for Liverpool in Saturday's Premier League win at Ipswich Town. The Egyptian assisted Diogo Jota to score the game's opening goal in the second half before doubling his side's advantage with his first goal of the new season shortly after.

For Salah, his composed finish past Christian Walton was his ninth opening-day strike - more than Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard on eight - but more impressively, his 300th goal or assist in his 350th game for the Reds.

That statistic has sparked debate over how Salah stacks up against the Premier League's greatest forwards of all time, as well as Liverpool heroes of the past as well.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Salah shared a post from Liverpool highlighting his proficiency in front of goal in the seven years since he moved to Anfield in a £34m deal from Serie A side AS Roma in 2017.

Since signing on the dotted line at Anfield seven years ago, Salah's goals have fired him up to fifth in the club's all-time scoring charts and ahead of Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Sir Kenny Dalglish and Michael Owen.

However, the Egyptian, who is out of contract next summer, still has some way to go to surpass Billy Liddell, Gordon Hodgson and Roger Hunt, who all trail Ian Rush's tally of 346 goals.

The 32-year-old, though, is facing an uncertain future at Anfield after entering the final 12 months of his deal earlier this year and, as it stands, appears no closer to penning fresh terms with the Reds.

However, on Friday, new head coach Arne Slot refused to be drawn into speaking about Salah's future in his pre-match press conference.
