Former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar applauded young Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj for his excellent bowling performance at Lord’s and called him a fast learner.

Siraj was up against the England batsmen at Lord’s, where picked a match-haul of eight wickets as India won by 151 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

In the second innings, Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler were building a crucial partnership to force a draw in the final session but Siraj got the wickets of Ali and Sam Curran on successive balls to bring back India into the game.

Later Siraj got the wicket of Buttler, England’s last recognised batsman before he knocked off James Anderson as England were bowled out for 120.

Mohammed Siraj is a quick learner and adapts well to situations: Sachin Tendulkar

Tendulkar said Siraj quickly adapts to the situations of different venues and has evolved himself as a bowler since he made his debut at Melbourne Cricket Ground in December 2020.

“Siraj is a quick learner and adapts well to situations. He has come across as a fast learner. Fast bowlers have a period where they develop very quickly. You look at them and you know they are different bowler now,” Tendulkar told news agency PTI.

“They have that window where they develop and that window is at the moment with Siraj. He has developed very quickly. When I saw him in MCG last year to now, what strikes is the fact that Siraj has learned how to construct an over, how to bowl a spell. That ability to think is critical. He has spring in his strides and give his hundred percent every time,” he added.

Earlier this year, Siraj picked his maiden five-wicket haul with the figures of 5/73 in the second innings against Australia, his dismissals included the likes of Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. India won the series 2-1 to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
