The beauty and skin care industries were rattled when Allure magazine released its September edition, declaring its ban on the term “anti-aging.” As a response to their own frustration with the term, the editors behind the publication decided that aging should no longer be stigmatized as “some sort of disease” but instead become a part of a positive conversation that embraces the aging process — a sentiment that a brand newly launched in the United States agrees with.
Hailing all the way from New Zealand, MitoQ might be the solution to many of the issues presented by aging. With a scientific breakthrough that allowed researchers to develop a product that targets the mitochondria, it’s now likely possible with both supplements and skin care to reenergize the cells involved in the aging process, without being “anti” anything. By targeting the cells responsible for both looking and acting differently as you age, the brand claims the product naturally reenergizes your body to look and feel younger in what MitoQ calls “healthy aging.”

At the brand’s launch in New York City, model and actress Molly Sims spoke with Yahoo Lifestyle about her own concerns about aging, as well as her thoughts on the language surrounding it. The 44-year-old mother of three admitted that her skin care regimen has changed drastically since having children, but she still makes time to address her personal skin concerns.
Yahoo Lifestyle: There’s recently been a call to the industry to stop using the term “anti-aging,” which seems to be absent from the vocabulary of MitoQ. What are your thoughts on this?
Molly Sims: MitoQ doesn’t use it, which is what makes it interesting, because it’s using your own cells and regenerating them. Without saying the words, I think you just want to maintain what you got and make it as good as you got when you got it. I can understand, whatever term you want to use, you just have to do the best you can with where you are and what you’ve got. And I do think you have to take care of yourself and your skin, and I’m a big believer.
How far would you go to look your best at any age?

I went and got one of the best facials of my life yesterday from Georgia Louise. She did this electrocution algae — I’m not joking. I’m kind of halfway in between. I don’t wanna look like I don’t move, but at the same time, mama wants to look good, so she will put herself through electrocution by Georgia Louise and different things.
What’s your go-to product for any of your major skin care needs?
Back in our heyday, Mario Badescu used to be the go-to spa. I still have the pimple cream — but that’s no joke. I just had a baby, so hyperpigmentation, melasma is kind of my enemy. So anything brightening. The MitoQ can help me with my skin, but in a different way because it’s all done with cellular regrowth. So, anything that can bring my skin back to life.

Well, I try to be authentic because so many people send you horrible stuff. So when I pick things, it’s like when I buy a birthday present. I’m gonna buy you something I bought for myself. I try with the channel to be authentic as much as anything because I’m a very big girls’ girl. I hate when girls don’t tell you what they use. Share a doctor, share a supplement, share a skin care, share a blouse. I’m a very big connector in that way, and I like to be connected back.
