Monaco beats hometown boy Haas in Hamburg

Juan Monaco did not stick to the script when he won the Germany Open with a 7-5 6-4 victory over hometown boy Tommy Haas in Hamburg.

The third seed claimed the sixth title of his career – all of them on clay - with the straight-sets victory.

The 28-year-old, currently ranked 14 in the world, also beat Nicolas Almagro and Jeremy Chardy en route to claiming his third title of the year.

Haas was the first German to reach the final of the event since Michael Stich won it in 1993, but the 34-year-old was condemned to a fourth straight defeat against his Argentine opponent.
