Manchester United have reportedly received an opening bid from a Saudi Arabian club to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, who could be handed a whopping salary of around £105million per year.

The Portuguese forward is known to want out of Old Trafford after the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, while he has also been frustrated by their lack of transfer dealings so far this summer.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Napoli have been credited with an interest in the player. However, no official offers are believed to have been made so far.

That is until now, as an unnamed Saudi club have emerged as the first bidders with a mega-money proposal. Indeed, the deal would see the 37-year-old pick up in excess of £100m each season, according to CNN Portugal.

The reports states that the transfer fee included would be around £30m. That is actually more than United paid to bring Ronaldo back to the club from Juventus last summer.

The Red Devils great would then receive a total salary of £210m, spread over a two-year contract.

Ronaldo was given permission by the club to delay his return to pre-season due to family reasons. However, he’s yet to inform Old Trafford chiefs when he plans to return.

As far as United are concerned Ronaldo, who PSG are said to have rejected the chance to sign, is going nowhere.

Indeed, if he does insist on leaving then it leaves the Red Devils around three weeks to find a suitable replacement before the new season starts.

Replacing Ronaldo a tough ask

Both Robert Lewandowski and Paulo Dybala have been mentioned as top targets. However, the former remains a major target for Barcelona and is keen on a Nou Camp move.

New United boss Erik ten Hag is still planning to have Ronaldo on board though.

The Dutchman told reporters earlier this week he expects the player to lead the line when the new campaign starts.

He said: “We are planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that’s it. I’m looking forward to working with him.

“I have read but what I say is Cristiano is not for sale, he is in our plans and we want success together. I spoke with him before this issue came up, I had a conversation with him and I had a good talk.

“That is between Cristiano and me, what I can confirm is we had a really good conversation together. What I said before, once again, I had a really good talk together.”
