Morgan Gibbs-White absence for Nottingham Forest against Arsenal explained
Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo says Morgan Gibbs-White is “not in the position” to face Arsenal.
The England international has been left out of the Reds’ match squad for the clash at the Emirates Stadium. Nuno says the attacker is still feeling the effects of the ankle injury he sustained in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea last month.
“He’s not in the right moment,” Nuno said of Gibbs-White. “We’ve been taking care of him since the knock in the Chelsea game, he has been trying hard, but he’s not in the position to do it today.”
Midfielder Elliot Anderson is also not in the squad to face the Gunners. He has been struggling with a foot problem in recent weeks.
Against Arsenal, Nuno has made two changes to his Forest starting XI from the 3-1 loss to Newcastle United before the international break. In addition to Gibbs-White dropping out, Chris Wood is on the bench having racked up a lot of air miles while representing New Zealand during the international break. James Ward-Prowse and Taiwo Awoniyi return to the line-up.
Ola Aina, Nikola Milenkovic, Murillo and Alex Moreno will once again make up the back line ahead of goalkeeper Matz Sels in the capital. Ward-Prowse will line up alongside Ryan Yates in midfield.
Nicolas Dominguez seems likely to take up the No.10 role in Gibbs-White’s absence, flanked by Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi. There is a rare start for Awoniyi up front. Carlos Miguel, Morato, Neco Williams, Wood, Harry Toffolo, Eric da Silva Moreira, Jota Silva, Ramon Sosa and Willy Boly will make up the bench.
