Morgan Smith has landed a new club following his departure from Hull FC. The playmaker has been a free agent following his exit from the MKM Stadium but he has been snapped up quickly following his departure from the club after securing a deal in the Championship.

Smith, who played 26 games for the club last season, has linked up with Sheffield Eagles for the 2025 season, Rugby League Live can reveal. The Yorkshire club have been admirers of the 26-year-old for a while but have now secured a deal for him after he reached an agreement to leave Hull after just one season.

He arrived at the club from Wakefield Trinity, predominantly to act as cover in both the halfback and hooker positions. But the premature departure of Fa'amanu Brown, as well as the unexpected exit of Ben Reynolds midway through the season, saw Smith become a regular during a difficult season for the club.

However, Hull have recruited extensively in both positions and with Cade Cust brought in to cover the two positions Smith specialised in, he had been told he was surplus to requirements this year. As a result, a compromise agreement was reached last week, seeing him depart the club.

He will now continue his career in the Championship with the Eagles, who are looking to bounce back after a dramatic collapse following Mark Aston's suspension saw them miss out on the play-offs last season. The future of the club's head coach position still remains unclear, with Aston appealing an 18-month suspension imposed last month after he was found guilty of breaching the RFL's welfare policy and medical standards.
