Eoin Morgan has promised to turn his back on the Indian Premier League if he can fight his way back into England's Test reckoning.

Morgan will line-up in the second NatWest one-day international against South Africa at the Ageas Bowl on Tuesday afternoon and hopes to make enough of an impression in the next four matches to push himself back into contention for the longer format.

"If I'm involved in international cricket, it always takes priority," said the Dubliner, who has an IPL deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders. "If I'm within one or two positions of the team I'll probably make the decision myself to come back (from India) and play county cricket."

He added: "If it came about that I was back in the England team during the IPL I'd be the happiest bloke in the world.

"You never know how far away you are. If the call comes hopefully I'll be in a good place to take the chance.

"As a 15-year-old I came across to England to play Test cricket. It's always been my priority.

"The IPL has been around now for five years and nothing has changed. If you can play great, if you can't no worries."

England are expected to name their squad for November's Test tour of India at the end of the series and with Kevin Pietersen's future still under a cloud, Morgan could find himself under consideration as his replacement.

There are a number of issues causing division between England and Pietersen, among them the 32-year-old's interest in playing a full IPL season next year in place of two home Tests against New Zealand.

While the problems go much deeper than that, not least Pietersen's admission that he sent "provocative" texts to friends in the South Africa dressing room, team director Andy Flower has described the batsman's attitude to the lucrative Twenty20 competition as the "catalyst".
