Motherwell star Tawanda Maswanhise reckons he’s getting to grips with Scottish football, in the same way that defenders are trying to hold onto him.

The Zimbabwean international bagged his third goal of the season in a 2-1 win at home to St Johnstone on Saturday, opening the scoring in 20 minutes, before Tom Sparrow netted a second, 13 minutes later.

St Johnstone scored from a controversial penalty through Nicky Clark, and had a goal disallowed when Jack Sanders handled the ball into the net from a Graham Carey corner.

But Maswanhise, 21, says patience paid off.

He said: “I would say we had a slow start to the game, but the lads stuck to the task.

“We all knew what we needed to do, and we got our two goals, deservedly.

“We knew we wanted to reach 19 points, we did that, it wasn’t easy, it was tough, and St Johnstone had the disallowed goal as well, so I’m happy with the result.

“I’m starting to feel more positive in front of goal, now, starting to find my way around the box, so I’m happy that I’ve scored another one.

“In this league I’ve got to just learn what to do when they [defenders] try grabbing me and getting to grips with me.

“The more games I come on, I want to try and hold the ball more, and I should get more success.”
