Motherwell have set out their stall on Lennon Miller with the club hierarchy making it clear they aren’t in any rush to cash in on the midfielder.

A host of clubs are now reported to be interested in signing the starlet, with Celtic and Rangers also vying for the 18-year-old’s signature. However, Motherwell chief executive Brian Caldwell has sent a warning shot to interested clubs as he insists the Fir Park side “don’t need to sell him” as reports around potential fees for the player ramp up.

Currently under contract until 2026, Miller captained the side at Hampden against Rangers in their recent Premier Sports Cup semi-final and the Steelmen aren’t interested in parting with him for any less than their current club record fee of £3.25m when David Turnbull moved to Celtic in 202.

Caldwell, as reported in the Daily Record, has said his ability to step into the role of club captain at such a young age is only further evidence of Miller’s special talent.

He said: "Stuart Kettlewell made him captain with the injuries and he has taken that without any difficulty which just shows his temperament. For a boy of 18 to be able to handle all that without being fazed in any way is testament to his character."

“We are all realistic to realise there will come a time when Lennon will move on," Caldwell added.

"He is an extremely talented player who we all see every week. But that time will only come when the deal is right for the club and the player. We have a really good relationship with his agent. We spoke only last week. We’re not in a rush to sell Lennon, we don’t need to sell him.

“But it’s not all about us, it’s about Lennon too. He is playing games every week which is the most important thing for his development and if he continues to develop the way he is we understand for his own development he’d probably need to go to a higher level. We need to bide our time and make sure when that time comes it’s the right deal for the club and the player.”
