Mount told best choice of Man Utd or Liverpool, where he’d ‘join in with front three’ alongside star man
Dean Saunders believes either Manchester United or Liverpool “should sign” Mason Mount, but “he should go” to the latter, to “slot in and join in with the front three” along with potentially Jude Bellingham.
Mount has been a consistent performer for the Blues since coming through the ranks of the academy. Indeed, he has directly contributed to at least 12 league goals in each of his three seasons before this term.
His best tally came last season, when he bagged 11 league goals alongside 10 assists. As such, it would appear that he’s an important member of the side.
That Mount hasn’t missed a game this season, other than when he’s been injured, reinforces that. However, the recent influx of players seems to have thrown things up in the air.
Chelsea’s spend over the past two transfer windows has been north of £500million. Some of the new stars at Stamford Bridge have been awarded hefty contracts.
And with Mount’s deal running down, he reportedly wants to be paid in line with his crucial role. However, as yet, contract negotiations are not bearing fruit.
Manager Graham Potter wants his midfielder to make the right decision “for him and his family”. It seems despite the pair’s good relationship, Potter would not mind if that decision took him elsewhere.
The two main destinations it seems Mount could land at the moment are Man Utd and Liverpool. Both have been heavily linked during the current contract saga.
Saunders believes either side should be preying on the lack of movement in negotiations at Chelsea in order to sign him.
“Mason Mount, Liverpool should sign him. Or Manchester United,” he said on talkSPORT.
“I think he’s having problems, I think his dad’s doing his contract. They can’t get it sorted, the door’s open.”
Saunders feels the Anfield outfit is the obvious choice, given what Mount would bring alongside their current crop of stars, as well as another potential incoming in the summer.
“I think he should go to Liverpool. You could slot him in there to join in with the front three, get him the ball, he’s got a good football brain,” Saunders added.
“Imagine Liverpool had Bellingham and Mount in midfield. Two good players, but you’ve got to put your hand in your pocket.”
Indeed, signing both stars will not be cheap. However, it would give the Reds the midfield revamp they’ve been crying out for throughout this season.
The stars would be a good duo to pair up in the midfield. However, if their funds allowed them to only sign one, it seems fairly clear that would be Bellingham.
