Australia’s Test sensational batsman Marnus Labuschagne said the team should move forward and focus on winning the T20 World Cup and the Ashes after rifts with head coach Justin Langer were settled down.

Langer was under the hammer for the last few months for his coaching style and relations with the team players. The head coach had a meeting with both the Australian captains Tim Paine and Aaron Finch along with vice-captain Pat Cummins to check on the progress of the national team.

Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings and CEO Nick Hockley were also present in that emergency meeting. In fact, Hockley backed Langer to take the team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and The Ashes at home despite the chaos that was happening in the dressing room and the back to back T20I series loss to West Indies and Bangladesh.

I’ve been in touch with Justin Langer in the last couple of weeks: Marnus Labuschagne

Labuschagne, who has scored 1885 runs from 18 Tests at an average of 60.81, said he had interacted with Langer and feels both the parties should move ahead and give their best to win the upcoming competitions.

“I’ve spoken to the coach, absolutely. I’ve been in touch with him in the last couple of weeks and just having a chat to him. I think it’s really nice that those players and coaching and support staff are out of quarantine and can spend a bit of time with their families before what is going to be a massive five months,” Labuschagne told The Age.

“It’s never nice when it comes out like it has, so that’s not how we want to do it. But we want to make sure that we come together as a team and for those things that have come out, it’s been spoken about that it’s come to a head now and there’s been conversations had, and we can all move forward and have our focus on winning this World Cup and retaining the Ashes,” he added.

Cricket Australia announced a 15-member squad led by Aaron Finch for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Australia will play the first match of the Super 12 stage against South Africa on October 23.
