Arsenal are looking to seal a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk ‘as soon as possible’ with a ‘fresh development’ expected soon, according to reports.
The Gunners’ pursuit of Mudryk is dominating their transfer window with Mikel Arteta’s side making two bids for the Ukraine international, both of which have been rejected.
Arsenal’s latest proposal is believed to be worth up to £62m (€70m) but that still falls some way short of Shakhtar’s public valuation of €100m.
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs provided an update over the weekend with Arsenal ‘still in active talks’ after multiple reports insisting that Chelsea are trying to hijack the deal.
However, Jacobs insisted that, just like Arsenal, Chelsea are ‘not expected to meet’ Shakhtar’s €100m asking price and Mudryk ‘wants a move to the Emirates Stadium’.
Jacobs added: ‘This means Chelsea have to hope Arsenal pull out or try to change Mudryk’s mind. In addition should Chelsea bid, it is not thought their initial offer will significantly differ to Arsenal’s own valuation.’
TEAMtalk reported on Sunday that Arsenal are ‘unhappy’ with Shakhtar as they believe the Ukrainian club have used Chelsea to try and push up the price, despite Mudryk making it clear he wants to move to the Gunners.
Their transfer expert Graeme Bailey provided an update on the situation with Arsenal still confident of landing their top summer target.
Bailey said: “Arsenal want Mykhaylo Mudryk and they want the deal doing as soon as possible. We have already seen talks commence with Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk.
“Arsenal have no say on who Shakhtar can talk to, but they feel that their London rivals have been used somewhat to try and push them into a deal.
“But that aside talks continue and Arsenal remain confident they get a deal done.
“And you can’t ignore the fact that Mudryk has pushed so hard to get to Arsenal and I understand the player himself has made it clear again in the last week that Arsenal remain his first choice… and fair play to him, he is really pushing for that.”
And now Football.London say there is an ‘announcement imminent’ from Shakhtar with a ‘fresh development’ expected by Arsenal in the ‘next few hours’.
Football.London adds: ‘A clear indication over Mudryk’s’ future could come shortly as Shakthar’s training camp in Turkey begins on Monday January 9. Of course, it should be pointed out that the winger is expected to be part of the squad, as revealed by the club’s deputy sporting director Carlo Nicolini.’
