Catherine McKillop was the proudest mum in the world on Monday as she presented her triumphant son Michael with his 1500m gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympics in the Olympic stadium.

In one of several highly emotional medal ceremonies at this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games, McKillop stepped up to the plate to place the gold medal around her son Michael’s neck as he stood proudly on top of the podium, sending the watching crowds wild with elation. More than a few tears were shed by those in the stadium and those watching around the world on TV.

London 2012 Paralympic Games Partner and a ‘Proud Sponsor of Mums’, P&G enabled the presentation to take place and were delighted that Michael’s mum Catherine could take part in such a memorable event for her, her son and for Ireland.

Liam Harbison, Paralympics Ireland Chef de Mission added, “This is a fantastic achievement for Michael. For him to race in front of his mum at this level for the first time is special but to receive his Gold Medal from his mum will be a memory he will treasure forever. As a supporter of Paralympics Ireland, we are delighted P&G were able to enable an Irish athlete to enjoy such a moment.”
