Naas perform Rory Gallagher U-turn after coaching appointment sparks backlash
Rory Gallagher will not be coaching Naas footballers this season after an online backlash prompted the Kildare champions to perform a sensational U-turn.
On Sunday, news emerged that the former Derry, Fermanagh and Donegal boss had been appointed as Naas coach as part of Joe Murphy’s backroom team for the 2025 season.
Naas have won four Kildare titles in-a-row and have contested two Leinster Club SFC finals in the last four seasons.

However, news of Gallagher’s addition to the management team did not go down well and there have been several social media posts calling for the club to reverse their decision.
There are also reports that Naas were contacted by Croke Park who are believed to have expressed concerns about the move while the club’s committee met on Sunday night to discuss the fallout.
The Fermanagh native was most recently coaching with Corduff in Monaghan and hasn't managed since stepping down as Derry manager ahead of the 2023 Ulster final against Armagh.
That came in the wake of allegations of domestic abuse made against him on social media by his estranged wife, Nicola.
Gallagher denied the allegations and was cleared by the GAA authorities last February to return to coaching and management.
He was repeatedly linked with a return to the Derry job following the departure of Mickey Harte before the Oak Leafers appointed Paddy Tally in November.
