Nacer Chadli has a relegation release clause of £17million, with West Brom’s record signing set to finally make his comeback this weekend.

Chadli has emerged as the latest Albion player with a clause in his contract that can be triggered in the event of relegation, joining Jonny Evans (£3m) and Salomon Rondon (£16.5m).

The Belgium international was signed for a club record £18m from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2016 and it seems inevitable he will depart after West Brom’s relegation to the Championship is confirmed.

West Brom turned down bids from Swansea last summer, holding out for a fee of £25m which the Welsh club failed to reach before the transfer deadline.

But a figure of £17m this summer will be enough to sign the 28-year-old, who could make his first appearance of the year on Saturday against Liverpool.

Chadli has not played since the 3-1 defeat at Stoke on December 23 due to a hip injury, but he is now back in full training and in line to be included in Darren Moore’s squad.

Moore has restored morale at the Hawthorns after an unbeaten start to his reign as caretaker, including the 1-0 win over Manchester United last weekend.

Despite Moore’s excellent start since replacing Alan Pardew, and the fact he is highly admired by the board and players, it is thought unlikely that he is contention for the job permanently.

West Brom are preparing for a substantial rebuilding job over the summer and are targeting an experienced manager such as Michael Appleton, Dean Smith and Nigel Pearson.

However, West Brom will insist that Moore, the club’s former defender, remains an integral part of the coaching staff when the appointment is made.

He said: “I’ve got the utmost respect for the club, everyone knows that. Whatever direction is to come in the future then I’d very much hope to be part of that.

“I’m contracted by the football club and everybody knows whatever role the club sees me fitting, I’ll give it 100 per cent.

“Whatever that may be. I’m sure you’ll know in the future. For now, I’ll just continue doing the role I’ve been asked to do to the best of my ability.”
