Nan tops prelims

Chinaa's Nan came out on top in a fierce men’s preliminary round free skate in Nice posting a score of 130.75 – the only one of the 27 skaters that took to the ice to better 130 points.

Sergei Voronov of Russia was just shy after being awarded 128.47 to qualify second while Poland’s Maciej Cieplucha wasn’t too far behind him, placing third with 126.50.

Misha Ge, Kim Lucine and Viktor Pfeifer all totalled in the 120s with Alexei Bychenko of Israel securing the 12th and final place in the competition proper with a score of 108.51.

Chilcott, from Kent but based in Texas, could only manage a score of 91.92 on his World Championship debut – placing him 19th and therefore missing out on Friday’s men’s short program.
