Naomi Osaka one of four 'Gen-Z superstars' to co-host Met Gala this year

Naomi Osaka's stardom has reached one of the most exclusive events in the world.

The four-time Grand Slam champion will be one of four co-chairs for the 2021 Met Gala, scheduled for Sept. 13 after the event's 2020 hiatus, Vogue announced on Monday.

Co-chairing the event alongside the 23-year-old Osaka will be actor Timothée Chalamet, singer-songwriter Billie Eilish and poet Amanda Gorman, a group that Vogue calls a group of "Gen-Z superstars" that embody individualism through their fashion choices.

Since ascending to stardom with her win at the 2018 US Open, Osaka has consistently stood out with her fashion choices on and off the court, including through her tributes to victims of racial violence at last year's US Open.

Osaka had previously landed on the cover of Vogue, as had all three of her co-hosts.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will serve as honorary chair for the event alongside Tom Ford and Adam Mosseri. Even aside from Osaka's credentials in fashion, Wintour's selection of Osaka as a co-host isn't a surprise, as the editor is well-known as a longtime tennis fan and US Open mainstay.
