Napoli director Giovanni Manna is hoping for a swift resolution to Victor Osimhen's future at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer.

The Nigerian international will almost certainly leave the Serie A club after a public dispute last summer. The striker was in talks to join Chelsea and the club even agreed a deal with Al-Ahli before changing their asking price.

However, after the Saudi Arabian side walked away from the deal, Chelsea were unable to agree terms with the striker. Osimhen was then left out of Napoli's squad for the Serie A campaign and stripped of his number, before joining Turkish side Galatasaray on a season-long loan.

Osimhen was one of the most sought after strikers in European football after helping guide Gli Azzurri to the Serie A title, with his goals a major factor in that triumph. He agreed a new contract with a reported release clause in the region of €130million (£107.5million) but there were no clubs willing to meet that asking price.

Manchester United have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 26-year-old, who has scored 20 goals in 26 appearances for Galatasaray this season.

Ruben Amorim's side are expected to bring in a striker in the upcoming summer transfer window having struggled in the final third this season.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Manna said: "Victor is always going to be a hotly-debated topic and not just on the transfer market.

"He is an appetising player for clubs, he has a clause and everyone knows this, we are working to find a solution as quickly as possible, so that we can avoid what happened last year.”

Napoli also sold winger Khivcha Kvaratskhelia in January and the club is keen to avoid a repeat of his departure, along with another Osimhen saga. "There are certainly regrets, as it is never easy to lose an important player mid-season,” Manna said.

“We talked about it a lot, but in my view the situation was also twisted. What it leaves me with is the intention to always be ready to deal with things we cannot control, but we are certain that we did the right thing there.”
