NASCAR betting: Kyle Busch is the popular bet at Sonoma
Bettors like Kyle Busch at Sonoma.
Busch is the most-bet driver ahead of Sunday’s race at the Northern California road course. Busch’s odds have dropped from +1000 to +750 as 12.2% of the wagers and 25.4% of the handle — the amount of money bet on the race — has been put on the two-time Cup Series champion.
Busch is a more popular bet than Chase Elliott. The reigning Cup champion is the betting favorite at +210 and 11.8% of the wagers are on him. Just 12.4% of the handle is on Elliott.
Elliott has won at every road course he's raced at in the Cup Series. Busch has finished in the top seven in each of the last four Sonoma races and was second in 2019.
More money is on defending Sonoma champion Martin Truex Jr. than is on Elliott. Truex won the 2019 race at the track — the 2020 race wasn’t held because of the COVID-19 pandemic — and his odds have moved from +500 to +375. Truex has 16.7% of the handle, with just 7.8% of bettors picking Truex.
Kyle Larson is the fourth-most popular bet and Denny Hamlin is No. 5. Those five drivers along with Kevin Harvick and William Byron account for over 82% of the money wagered on the race. No other driver accounts for more than 2.5% of the betting handle.
