Nate Marquardt Tops UFC Portland Fighter Bonuses

Nate Marquardt Tops UFC Portland Fighter Bonuses

While most people were wowed by the John Lineker vs. John Dodson main event at UFC Fight Night 96 on Saturday in Portland, Ore., neither fighter took home a post-fight bonus.

Although Lineker won a split decision over Dodson, UFC officials skipped a Fight of the Night award, which easily could have gone to the main eventers, and instead handed out four Performance of the Night bonus checks worth $50,000 each.

Fifty-three-fight veteran Nate Marquardt led the charge on the bonuses with an impressing walk-off knockout of Tamdan McCrory. Marquardt staggered his foe with a right hand, but as he was wobbling backward, Marquardt landed a head kick that finished him.

Brandon Moreno‘s Performance of the Night bonus might as well have also donned the Upset of the Night moniker. Moreno was a late replacement for Sergio Pettis, but he made the most of the opportunity. He was eliminated in the opening round of The Ultimate Fighter 24 tournament to find a flyweight contender to champion Demetrious Johnson, but Moreno upset No. 9 ranked Louis Smolka on Saturday, putting him to sleep midway through the opening round of their fight.

Other bonus winners were Henrique da Silva, who submitted Joachim Christensen in the Fox Sports 2 prelim headliner, and Curtis Blaydes, who used devastating elbows to finish Cody East in their UFC Fight Pass early prelim bout.

UFC Fight Night 96 Post-Fight Bonus Winners:

  • Nate Marquardt

  • Brandon Moreno

  • Henrique da Silva

  • Curtis Blaydes
